Poem: “New minimum wage” by Gbemisola Adeoti

Once upon an age thundering bellies demand more crumbs of porridge and pint of lemonade upon such craving said the benign king:

New minimum wage

In a fairy land
where dearth haunts
the teeming folks,
there, mouldy milk
flow in few throats.

Once upon an age
thundering bellies demand
more crumbs of porridge
and pint of lemonade
upon such craving
said the benign king:
"growers must grub — yes
millers must munch
but to be fed
and well fed
the palm tree field
they need to weed"

Behold new minimum wage
and hum age-long dirge.
