I Saw this Morning

I saw this morning
panic in the location
little children clasping schoolbags
put to fight
I saw them run across an open veld
up and down the streets
they were seeking the refuge of their homes
I saw terror whirl around and about the location
little children fleeing from an unseen monster
I heard the screams of a child
he was a crippled little boy yelling
tears furrowing his cheeks
he was wheeling around his teacher
held tight
no words reached him
no bullying cowed him
his mind was gripped by this fear
I saw this morning
what it is like
to be scared by rumour
